Wine Bottle Pendant Light

My big florescent light stopped working in my kitchen.  Big, uninteresting! This inspired me to try something... I ordered this base that holds 8 pendant lights I will make a wine bottle pendant light! Gathering supplies. Picked up some pendant lights from Lowes that was on sale over the Christmas holidays. 

I picked out these beautiful blue champagne bottles to make my pendant light with. I had only one extra; so I had to score and get the cuts perfect.  This is the tool I used to score each bottle. I bought it at Hobby Lobby and it has lasted a long time! So, when I scored each bottle; I made sure to score each line as deep as I possibly could. I find this helps to get a good cut every time. Here is what the score lines looked like Next; I put some water to boil in my kettle. (Sorry about the dirty stove) Once the water is boiling, carefully carry the kettle over to the sink and start the cold water in the sink. Holding each bottle by the neck, away from the score line, pour the boiling water directly onto the score lines of the bottle. I always put a dish towel on the bottom of the sink to minimize breakage. Turn the bottle with the other hand. You want each side to heat up evenly. Do this for about 10 seconds. Then hold under the cold water ...

Ordered this base for 8 pendant lights Next; I pushed the pendant light wires through  a wine bottle. Then threaded the wire through each hole and  wired the pendant lights together, matching black to black and white to white wires. I covered my wine bottles with bubble wrap to keep from cracking the glass. 

To test my light; I wired it to a lamp wire and plugged it in. It worked perfectly!

It took forever to get this light together; but thanks to my son for helping me hang it! I turned off the electricity to the kitchen lights. Then we were able to safely remove the old light. Wired in the new light. Had a hard time lining up the screws that would hold it in place. I think if we had tightened down before attempting to hang it, it would have been easier!! Then we turned on the electricity. With the small 40 watt Phillips Spotlight bulbs; it was very pretty.  But the lighting did not reach the counter; which is what I really needed. Under pressure from my son who believes in the cost saving of the fluorescent bulbs, I changed them out. These bulbs will give much more light and do not heat up or use electricity as much as the regular bulbs.  Finally we had light!
